It looks like I’m not the only one that thinks the new Arizona Cardinals Stadium name (University of Phoenix Stadium) is ironic :
“The Cardinals spent the past 17 years trying to rid themselves of the stigma of being the only NFL team to play in a college arena. Their glitzy new $455 million stadium is now named for a university.” (The Arizona Republic)
The naming rights deal is pending approval by The Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority; if the name is approved, add to the irony the fact that Glendale fought hard to snatch the stadium from Tempe and Phoenix only to end up with a name that prominently represents Phoenix.
